Industry Filters and Auto-Suppression

2 min read

To help keep your data clean, relevant, and actionable, DemandSense automatically filters out certain traffic that is unlikely to provide value. This ensures your credits are spent on meaningful sessions and that your lead lists reflect high-quality potential prospects.

Why Some Traffic Is Filtered #

In many cases, traffic may appear to come from recognizable companies, but it’s not actually coming from their employees. For example:

  • A session identified under the “Airlines” category is often someone using airport Wi-Fi, not an airline employee.
  • Visitors listed under “Hospitality” or “Traveler Accommodation” are typically hotel guests using public Wi-Fi.
  • Traffic from educational institutions often comes from students or public campus users, not decision-makers.

To avoid cluttering your lead list with these types of irrelevant records, the system filters out certain industries if the individual is not also identified.

If the visitor is fully identified as an individual, and their company falls into one of these categories, the session will still be displayed, because there’s a high likelihood that the individual is genuinely affiliated with that organization.

Industries Filtered by Default #

Here’s a list of industries that are automatically filtered out when the individual is not identified:

  • Educational Services
  • Data processing, hosting, and related services
  • Information technology and services
  • Traveler Accommodation
  • Non-profit organization management
  • Professional training & coaching
  • Airlines
  • Government administration

Customizing Suppression Rules #

If you need to allow traffic from any of these industries—especially if they match your Ideal Customer Profile (ICP)—you can adjust these settings manually.

To review or change suppression settings:

  1. Go to the User Settings page.
  2. Open the Website Visitor Identification tab.
  3. Under Industry Auto-Suppression, use the toggle to either Allow or Block each industry.
By default, all industries listed above are blocked to maximize data quality.

Geography Filters (Optional) #

In the same section of User Settings, you can also limit geographic regions for account identification. This allows you to focus on visitors coming from countries or regions relevant to your business, helping you reduce noise and prioritize the most important data.

This filtering system is designed to help you focus on what really matters—verified individuals and companies that match your business goals. If you’d like help reviewing or adjusting your industry suppression rules, feel free to reach out to our support team.
